Sculpture or Fashion?

Joy Teiken’s signature fashion line Joynoelle, has been worn by the likes of Allison Janney, Andie MacDowell and Toni Braxton.  A former art teacher, Joy approaches her fashion design like she does sculpture, working around the form from all angles. Once a year she comes out with a collection and show (which she calls a performance) that incorporates MCs, experts, and DJs to showcase her personal designs. MN Original documented her 2017 collection, which was inspired by fungi and lichen found by her cabin in northern Minnesota. Her 2018 show on Sunday, May 20th at Lightbox studios, was inspired by books about space and the solar system with her son.  "All I could think about was how nice it would be to go there, to go to those places and get off planet earth for a bit." Models will appear in an intimate, gallery setting with NASA images, space exploration footage and the feeling of weightlessness playing a role in the presentation.

The still photography in this video was provided by Eric Doolin Photography, with make up by Melissa Tomfohrde, and hair by Kristine Loehrer.
