Ken Sholes enlisted in the Navy at the age of 20 to avoid being drafted and sent to Vietnam. He ended up in Vietnam, however, for a little under a year serving as a cook. Ken speaks about his experience of being a closeted gay man in the military and the silence that surrounded the homecoming of Vietnam veterans. He was involved locally in the movement to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
