Poet Donte Collins Wants You to Find Power in Your Own Story

Donte Collins is a Black, queer American poet. Named the inaugural Youth Poet Laureate of Saint Paul, they are the recipient of the 2018 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Spoken Word and winner of the 2016 Most Promising Young Poet Award from the Academy of American Poets. They are the author of the poetry collection Autopsy (Button Poetry, 2017) a finalist for a Minnesota Book Award.  

Donte Collins is a featured artist in the April 2019 event Art Is... My OriginArt Is… My Origin is a sneak peek into the most sacred of creative spaces – home. This segment will explore those living-room, basement and bedroom practices of freedom that led to the discovery of voice. It will look at blackness across difference and art, specifically music and poetry, as an intergenerational connector and catalyst for liberation.
