Hidden Wounds: Somali Women's Health

The difficulties of life can exact a heavy price, if kept secret.

Like other refugee communities, Somali Minnesotans are resilient survivors. But many Somalis internalize the traumatic experiences of their refugee saga, as well as the difficulties of life in a new land. This can compromise their health and well-being, and make life here even more difficult. This is especially true for Somali women, who function as the hub of family life and, like so many of us, don't often make time for their own needs. But this may be changing.
