For Yoni Light Dance Is Her Healing Process

Yoni Light is a 19-year-old performing artist from Saint Paul. She has attended SPCPA, Perpich Center for Arts Education and High School for Recording Arts. In 2015, she was given a full-ride scholarship to the TU Dance Center in Saint Paul, founded by former Alvin Ailey dancers Uri Sands and Toni Pierce Sands. Yoni co-founded the crew/dance collective New Black City and currently performs with them, and she recently created a session for women of color to have a safe space to express themselves. Yoni is an artist who not only dabbles in dance, but also in music. She is currently a member of the City of Lakes Americorp as a youth worker for after-school programs and a community activator working with organizations such as Win Back The Community.
