Art and Nature Collide at Silverwood Park

By Amy Melin

There is a gem of a park just a few miles north of Minneapolis where you can enjoy the best nature has to offer, all while immersing yourself in creativity. Silverwood Park, located in the heart of St. Anthony, Minnesota, is a spot where art and nature collide in the best way.

Silverwood is the only art-focused park in the Three Rivers Park District system. At its core, the park is a place for visitors to use art as a tool to connect with nature. The park offers programs from pottery to photography. The gallery inside the visitor center hosts seven art shows each year, including student shows that feature art work done in local schools and by youth who attend programs at Silverwood.

All about the art

Work by local writers and visual artists line the trails at Silverwood. As of September 2018, there are a dozen sculptures on site. The newest sculpture to grace the park is a piece by Minnesota artist Asia Ward. You can learn more about Asia and her work in this MN Original story.

Each September, new work debuts on the park's poetry trail, first developed eight years ago. Visitors can use their cell phones at six different spots to listen to poetry by local writers.

Silverwood Park is open year round, though the visitor center closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you feel your creative side calling, alongside a desire to immerse yourself in the natural world, then make sure to include a visit to the park in your plans.
